Some people may see Grievesy and Grant Cornock being released as just
co-incidence. However it is slightly ironic that the two cousins who grew up
together watching Watford from the terraces were released by Watford at the
end of their most successful season in a decade, a season that if they had
not been playing for Watford, they would have surely enjoyed more.
While Watford celebrated, the guy who dreamt of leading them out at Wembley
sat in the stands contemplating his future.
I like Danny, a nice popular guy. Down to earth and I'd go so far as to say
that he, like Richard Flash before him, was not really given a fair crack of
the whip. When the possible chances arose, he was overlooked. Played in
peculiar positions in the reserves over the season while the club tried out
various foreign or English trialists in his position of centre midfield,
quite naturally his head started to drop.
His one appearance for the first team came in the AWS Joke side against
Fulham, featuring amongst others Mark Rooney and Peo Ljung.
Not really a debut to remember... hardly a debut at all.
At the end, for those who watched it was a shame that such a talent for the
set piece and the long searching ball had been lost. He may never have made
it, but sometimes it is better to have been honest and not offered the
chance in the first place. At least then he could have enjoyed last season!
