Gone but not forgotten:
Steve Cherry
Position: Goalkeeper
From: Notts County - free transfer - July 1995
Record: Played: 4 Scored: 0
To: Rotherham United - free transfer - May 1996
Career stats: Soccerbase
He was: Fatter than you and me

Signed as an experienced backup for Kevin Miller, Cherry won the hearts of the fans partly by not being Perry Digweed but mainly by being mad as a bicycle and proud of it. His habit of bellowing abuse at spectators (I read one anecdote, probably in the WO, which described how some fans leaving a reserve game early were stopped by an almighty cry of "Where do you think you're going?" from the pitch) was particularly entertaining, as long as you weren't on the receiving end. He was a decent enough keeper too, although well past his sell-by date.
