Profile:

Sietes was signed in the Summer of 2005, when we were looking very short on defenders. The positive element of the Watford support was delighted at Aidy’s coup. After all, this was a guy who’d played for Valencia in the UEFA Cup. Those in the negative camp pointed out that he left Valencia in 1997 and further investigation revealed that he had been just a second half sub in two of their eight UEFA Cup games in the 96/97 season. After leaving Valencia, he was at Racing Santander for six seasons, and then spent a season at Alaves. At the start of the 2004/2005 season, he dropped down a league and was playing in the Spanish second division for Real Murcia for the season prior to joining us.

I was just hoping that he would be more Galli than Vega, but time would tell. I saw his debut in a Watford shirt when he played in the pre-season game at Boreham Wood. My impression that day was that he’d done all that was asked of him, but he didn’t set the game alight. I didn’t go to Denmark, so my next opportunity to see him was at Northwood. He looked speedy, but fell over a bit too easily when challenged. He then appeared as a second half sub against Charlton, ran about a bit and fell over when challenged. At that point he was demoted to the reserves. The last time I saw him play was in a very poor reserve performance against an unimpressive Fulham team. He was anonymous in that game and was actually substituted. He did not appear in the most recent reserve game.

There are rumours that Sietes will follow the other early signings, Devaney and Junior, in leaving the club in the very near future. There are also Watford fans who are not convinced that Sietes exists. I’ve also heard that he is injured, but that is not confirmed anywhere, certainly not on the Official website. I can confirm that he exists, he’s just not as good as the present incumbents in the full back role.

So, the verdict so far? He looks like Vega, is no Galli, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we never saw him in the first team.
