On this day

Previous reports: West Ham United 1 Watford 0, 11/09/99
Saint of the Day: Protus and Hyacinth were eunuch brothers who secretly converted to Christianity along with their mistress, Eugenia, the daughter of the Roman consul. With Eugenia dressed as a boy they escaped to a monastery, where Eugenia was later made abbot. Are you with me so far? A local woman fell for Eugenia, in her guise as an abbot, and when her attentions were spurned she accused Eugenia of an attack on her honour. Eugenia was brought before her own father at court, and was recognised. All were reconciled and Protus and Hyacinth got to convert the whole nobility assembled. In the end they were all martyred, apart from Eugenia's mother, who flew to heaven.

Nicholas Ralph's Numbers - Game 7: If a and b are the short sides of a Pythagoras triangle, then a, b, or a-b is divisible by seven.
Lucky animal: Chaffinches.
Unlucky food: Warm salt water. A savoury treat, to be sure...but it's been a week since I had my wisdom tooth dug out and the hole stitched up, and I'm bored of brick.
The BSaD Interview: Throughout the 2004-05 Season BSaD are interviewing eminent ex-Hornets for the matchday programme. The Interviewee in Saturday's programme is Keith Dublin.
