Saint of the day: St Wilfrid of York was a major political figure in Seventh Century England. Which is how he came to be deposed, vindicated by the Pope after travelling to Rome, reinstated, deposed again, imprisoned and exiled. He travelled to Rome once more, was vindicated and reinstated, but died before anyone had a chance to depose him again.
