BLIND, STUPID AND DESPERATE

Famous victories:
The Birmingham ticket queue
Photos by Andy Stocks and Simon Devon

It was an act of wilful (and ultimately unnecessary) lunacy. Dozens of Watford fans queued all night in Occupation Road to ensure a place at the second leg of the playoff semi-final with Birmingham - the first people arrived at 7:30 in the evening (which, by anyone's standards, is complete madness) and by five o'clock in the morning the queue had reached Vicarage Road. It was fun, in a spirit-of-the-blitz kinda way. Later that day, people who'd had a proper night's sleep were able to stroll up to the ticket office, buy their tickets without queueing and walk away. But we weren't to know that, were we?
